This project explores a new way of experiencing art on the web by combining the familiarity of a modern website with the immersion of a lightweight 3D environment. Rather than asking visitors to navigate a game-like space, the gallery is designed to feel intuitive and welcoming, allowing artwork to become the primary focus.

The Challenge
Traditional virtual galleries often feel more like video games than art experiences. First-person controls, complex navigation, and heavy 3D environments can create unnecessary friction for visitors who simply want to discover artwork. The challenge became finding a way to preserve the sense of space and atmosphere that only 3D can provide while making the experience as approachable as browsing a beautifully designed website. At the same time, the platform needed to remain lightweight, performant, mobile-friendly, and flexible enough to support future commerce, artist storytelling, and multiple collections.
The Solution
The solution was to rethink the gallery as a website with a three-dimensional presentation layer rather than a traditional virtual world. A reusable gallery environment became the foundation of the experience, allowing artwork, metadata, lighting, and collections to change independently of the architecture itself. Navigation experiments gradually shifted away from conventional first-person movement toward scroll-driven cinematic transitions, creating an experience that feels familiar, elegant, and accessible. Artwork information is driven by structured metadata, making it possible to connect each piece to artist stories, pricing, availability, and future e-commerce integrations while keeping the rendering engine independent of the content. This architecture creates a sustainable foundation for future features including artist subscriptions, curated exhibitions, virtual events, multiplayer presence, and integrated artwork sales.
